@Wrong place, @wrong time

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Sometimes you think you are at the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe you just got hit by bird droppings or something. Most of the time it is only minor inconveniences that makes people think they are in bad luck. Things can be much worse than that…

37 year old mouse

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

Who would have figured that the mouse is at least thirty seven years old today? I didn’t know. On 17 september 1970 the first computer mouse was patented by Douglas C. Engelbart.

Passing the “stick of flames”

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

Being someone with a great affinity for all things technological I often wonder how life would be without all the technical gadgets, instruments and convenience applications. For me life would be hell. Simple as that. However this isn’t necessarily true for everybody. Although I often see the benefit of using technology there is also a great danger involved in the mass deployment of technology. The problem is not the technology itself but the people who use it. Or better phrased: the people who don’t know how to use it. The most productivity increasing tool can become a lethal weapon in the hands of technologically challenged people.

Dance hall days (videos)

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Dancing is not really my cup of tea. I’m a horrible dancer and I really look ridiculous when I try. That is not really a problem because I don’t want to dance anyway. People who actually can dance really look cool doing it. Some people have such control over their body that moving to the music actually looks graceful. No matter how graceful a person looks dancing, the first move always looks ridiculous. It is really fun to go downtown to some dance hall joint and watch people join the dancefloor and actually strike the first move. I’ve spilled many drinks from laughing at people who are about to start dancing.

Drunks, dopies & weirdo pictures

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Oh how funny, let’s pull a funny face in front of the camera. Here is a five star collection of posing drunks, dopies and weirdo’s. Disclaimer: all depicted people pretend to be retards. I do not intend to make fun of mentally challenged people. I do intend to make fun of weirdos who put their own stupid face on the net.

Offguard pictures (part 1)

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Don’t you just love these picture sites? Picasa, Flickr and all the other ones. I just love to watch people, even on stills. Every now and then I think of a theme and I hunt down pictures that fit the theme.

Todays special: people photographed offguard. You know the situation. You just started to say something when someone takes a picture and you look like a complete retard…

The Hans Reiser trial

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Are you wondering how the Hans Reiser trial (of Reiserfs fame) is proceeding? You can read all about it right here. This is pretty heavy stuff as his little boy seems to be turning against him, very dramatic.

Sticky situation, good advice

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Whenever you are in a sticky situation there is always someone who can give you some good advice…. otherwise you can always write to Miriam. She knows all…

Good advice

If this is old shit please feel free to flame me in the comments. To me, for one, it was new. What? Yes, I know many of those sent-in letters are fake and made up by the editors. I should know since I wrote all comments on this blog myself.

New cycle

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

As you may (or may not) know the number one transportation in the Netherlands is the bicycle. Kids learn how to ride a bicycle at the age of three or four. By the time the kids go to school they can control and ride a bicycle as well as they can walk. I always liked to terrorize the streets and pavement on my bicycle when I was young. I even raced bicycles. The only thing I didn’t like was that all bikes look alike.

I customized my bike by mounting a steer from a race bike upside down on my regular bike. This kind of looked like the steer of a chopper motorcycle. Really cool. Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of that bike. It got stolen when I was twelve. Apparently other kids liked my bike too.

Nieuwe collega stelt zich voor

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Big Brother lives in room 641A

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

George Orwell may have been off a few decades but he was right. The government wants total control over your life. They don’t control all information (yet) but are getting ready for that. It turns out the US government spied on all electronic data traffic at AT&T.

Mark Klein who retired from AT&T was responsible to split all fiber optic channels within the AT&T facility in San Francisco to the secured room 641A. Access to room 641A requires NSA clearance. As Mark Klein puts it “I connected the Big Brother machine”. All traffic is copied to the secret room. This is a violation of the constitution. Here is the video in which Mark Klein blows the whistle.

I finally got a tattoo

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

I always had this secret desire to get a tattoo. If only I could decide on the design. I tried some scribbles on paper but never got it the way I wanted. After 15 years I finally gave up and entered a tattoo shop. The tattoo-guy showed me a couple of designs. I liked them… but those were not really for me. You see I’m not your typical tough guy. I can’t wear aggressive or bold tattoos. I need something cute, a little furry kind of thingy.

The tattoo guy asked me where I wanted the tattoo so he could estimate how large the tattoo could be. I showed him where I wanted the tattoo and instantly I saw his face glow with exitement. He said: “lie down. I know just the kind of tattoo you are looking for”. I laid down and let the inspired artist do his job. Here is the result…
