Poor Beethoven & Mozart… think of the effort they had to put into their music and now they are overtaken by Microsoft Songsmith.

Deze prachtige zondagochtend schreeuwt om een prettig stukje muziek. En wat is er meer geschikt dan een prachtig werkje van The Doors. The Crystal ship is being filled, a thousand girls, a thousand thrills, a million ways to spend your time. Misschien wel de allerbeste band uit de geschiedenis… The Doors. Er zijn op YouTube nog veel meer pareltjes te vinden van de Doors.

Ja het is er wel weer een zondag voor maar ik heb vandaag geen zin om weer die platenkoffers op te gaan zoeken achter de knieschotten. Maar dat wil niet zeggen dat er geen fatsoenlijke selectie te maken valt uit de CD bak. Immers heb ik daar ook een boel oude maar dierbare muziek.

Ziehier: een hele rij CD’s van J.J. Cale. De zwaar ondergewaardeerde (zeker in Nederland) gitaarvirtuoos uit Tulsa en schrijver van ongelovelijk mooie liedjes. Mijn favoriet is wel “You keep me hangin’ on” (van het album “Grasshopper”). De video is mooi maar slaat niet op het nummer. Het gaat om de muziek moet je maar denken.

Tonijn is niet alleen lekker maar bevat ook nog eens nauwelijks vet waardoor het goed voor de lijn is.

Vandaag was weer zo’n heerlijke zondagochtend om weer eens een vleugje nostalgie te snuifen uit de oude platenkoffers. Er zitten nog genoeg juweeltjes tussen die ik nog niet op CD heb noch electronisch. Ik heb helaas geen platenspeler meer speelklaar staan dus ik moet het doen met de oude hoes en de herinneringen die de plaat oproept. Een eerdere speurtocht in de platenkoffer leverde al wat moois op. Deze keer trok ik er een ander juweeltje uit van een veel te vroeg overleden artiest: Jim Croce.

De video op YouTube is prachtig want je ziet Jim Croce zelf met zijn vrouw Ingrid. Het kleine mannetje in de video is zijn zoon A.J. (Adrian James) Croce, ook een gewaardeerd musicus. Dit nummer “Time in a bottle” heeft Jim geschreven voor zijn (toen) pasgeboren zoon A.J.

Wat een melancholie op de vroege zondagmorgen.. maar wat een prachtig nummer is het toch. Als je goed naar de tekst luistert dan is het echt een kippenvel nummer. Jim Croce heeft nog meer van dergelijke juweeltjes op zijn naam staan.

There are not many original new games nowadays. Most of the games are 1st person shooters that are mere evolutions of previous titles. Think of the Halo’s, the Grand theft auto series. There’s nothing wrong with that. Every now and then a new original game pops up that stands out against the mainstream titles. What do you think of the just released Crayon Physics Deluxe?

You’ll have to use your creativity and your knowledge of physics to roll a ball from one spot to another spot (marked with a star). No fancy graphics, no difficult pixel shader tricks… just pure fun. This looks like hours of fun. The only drawback is that you need to run Microsoft Windows for this game or an apple iPhone. Take a look at the demonstration video below. Like what you see? It seems the ‘home computer’ of the old days is making a comeback. Asus is pushing its EEE line of small embedded computers. After the EEE netbook they also released an EEE desktop computer. The new product in line is an EEE media player, presented at CES 2009. A computer integrated into a keyboard (like the homecomputers of way back when) but this model also features a small display.

I saw this image of a hamas sympathizer holding up a sign saying “Death to all juice”. I wanted to know where the image was taken so I searched for “Death to all juice” and found the source of the image. It was taken in New York on Fifth Avenue on the 28th of december 2008 by RedSquirrel from Vigilant Squirrel Brigade. Clearly the protester meant “Jews” instead of “Juice”. I think this photo clearly demonstrates that blind hatred and lack of education go hand in hand. Only his stupidity is greater than his hatred of jews. You may hope that one day all people of the world will have at least some kind of education and the ability to think for themselves. Enlighten this fellow creature…

Har har har… you might think the IT industry at large may have learned a small lesson from the millennium bug (Y2K bug). Well most professionals probably did but Microsoft still manages to screw up bigtime. In this case the Zune 30GB version has a leap-year bug. It will not start up properly due to the bug. Fortunately there is a fix at hand… Just let it run out of battery capacity. Recharge the battery and start it after noon GMT and your Zune will be fine. You got to love those Microsoft products.

With the Zune you get the full Microsoft experience. Think of continues thrill and exitement the Zune is offering you… is it going to work or will it blow up in my face? It’s like rebooting after a blue screen of death… you’ll never know whether your system will successfully restart or not. Microsoft gives just that little more excitement…

Allereerst een heel gelukkig, gezond en humorvol 2009. Daarnaast het is weer tijd voor de traditionele nieuwjaarshoroscoop, editie 2009 dit keer. De vorige nieuwjaarshoroscoop werd met veel kritiek en gescheld ontvangen. Het serieus nemen van een horoscoop lijkt me geen verstandig idee. Ga maar eens na. Hoe is het mogelijk dat je de hele mensheid in slechts 12 vakjes kunt indelen en dat voor al die mensen een dergelijke voorspelling zou opgaan… Bovendien stond er een waarschuwing bij dat je dit niet al te serieus moet nemen maar toch vonden Bianca en Laura het nodig om de boodschapper neer te schieten…

Ik heb daar het hele jaar diep over nagedacht en moest denken aan wat het oude zigeunervrouwtje tegen me zei toen ze me de kristallen bol overhandigde. “Nooit ondersteboven op de houder plaatsen want dan draai je alles om”. Het vervelende is dat boven en onder niet te onderscheiden is bij een kristallen bol. Ik heb ‘m dit jaar in ieder geval omgedraaid in de hoop dat er een positievere horoscoop uit zal komen. De wierrookstokjes geuren, de kaarsen branden en ik wrijf over de kristallen bol. Een paarse mist ontstaat in de bol en lost langzaam op… we hebben beeld… daar gaan we…
