Eucalyptus drive emergency

Friday, February 27th, 2009

An idea for a short story popped into my head. Someone driving a car accidentally hits a pedestrian at some remote location. He calls the police to report the accident and call for help for the badly injured pedestrian. The emergency operator wants to know the exact location of the accident but the driver has no clue where he is so hangs up. He drags the injured pedestrian into his car, drives to main street unloads the deceased pedestrian and calls the emergency service again this time able to pinpoint the exact location…

Stupid idea? Yeah I thought so as well.. so I searched the internet to see if someone already thought of this before I did. Guess what? It’s a little different though. A man calls the emergency service because his wife is attacked by a warthog real bad. The 911 guy wants to know the address.
Yeah, we’re at 1825 Eucalyptus drive…
Can you spell that for me, sir?”

Eeehhhmmm…. I’m gonna drag her on over to oakstreet and you can pick her up there…

Self levitation for fatties…

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Some say it’s a trick, others believe levitation is actually possible. Even fatties can do self levitation you only have to believe you really can. This guy is pretty much convinced of his own abilities…

Maybe not the best magician out there but he may stand a chance as a comedian…

End of the night…

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Take the highway to the end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
Take a journey to the bright midnight
End of the night, end of the night

Realms of bliss
Realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to the endless night
End of the night

Wake up your cat…

On digg I found this cute link to a website where people wake up their cat and take a picture of it. Sometimes a bit harsh but there are some lovely snapshots…

World of goo

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Not to long ago I wrote a small entry about how sometimes a game stands out against the rest. These games are not mere imitations or improvements of other games but are genuinly original. Today I came across another such game and it is called “World of goo”. Recently the native Linux version of the game has been released (Mac and Windows was already available).

The idea is that you pick up blobs of goo and position them to create constructions. However it is all goo and flexible. The other blobs of goo will freely move along the trails of the construction. Well it’s hard to explain. Just watch the video below.

Download a working demo of World of goo. I liked it very much but to be honest I think Crayon Physics is a little bit nicer to play.

Java 6 on Mac OS X

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

I used to be a hardcore Linux user before I got my Mac. Being a Linux / Unix user you are used to scratching our own itch. When I moved to the Mac I sort of got used to having everything integrated and well configurable. Well that is until I installed Java 6. After installing Java 6 the current version (Java 5) remained the active version.

So to scratch my own itch I just set some environment variables and put a few links here and there and I was done. However a collegue of mine ran into the same problem on his wife’s Mac. Since I didn’t want them to go through the same mess I went through I tried another search on how to properly activate Java 6. And I found it right here. Isn’t that brilliant? You gotta love your Mac.

3 applications ought to be enough for anyone

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Mayday mayday… we’re going down.. we’re going down. Finally when Microsoft had an OS that actually could run more than one application at once they now use that to extort some money out of you. The Windows 7 Starter Edition will not allow you to run more than three applications at the same time (virus scanners etc. not included). Whahahahaha what is wrong with those people from Redmond?

Surely this will also raise the price of netbooks once they are preinstalled with Windows 7. I thought that Vista sucks but this is really crap. How many more arguments do you need to start using Unix? Now please be aware that Microsoft claims the average user uses only two applications at the same time. Yeah right. I don’t know about you but during the day I’ll have around 10 to 15 applications open. Tssss… I wonder what’s next. Pay extra for using multiple USB storage sticks? Pay up when you connect a new mouse? This is pathetic.

This originally started as a post about two foxes happening to jump on a trampoline during a playful encounter and one of ‘m has an investigative mind. Than I started looking for more funny trampoline video’s. And then I came across a great video on funny cats. So this is just about funny animal video’s. Enjoy… or don’t. Whatever.

Een zondags ommetje

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

More SongSmith tunes

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Here are some more funny Songsmith renditions of classic songs. Sander already linked to a couple of classics in his comment on the first Songsmith post that mainly bashed the horrible ad for Songsmith. Sander was right when he stated that I didn’t see the full comic potential of this program.

So here is some more great Songsmith stuff. Some of these are actually really good. Enjoy. If I missed really great ones on YouTube please put them in the comments.

Recensie: Het zijn net mensen – Joris Luyendijk

Saturday, February 7th, 2009
