Het lied “Be My Number Two” van Joe Jackson is afkomstig van het album “Body & Soul” uit 1984. Ik heb deze plaat, toen vinyl al op z’n retour was, van vrienden gekregen voor mijn achttiende verjaardag. Wat een mooie avond had moeten worden liep uit op een klein drama toen duidelijk werd dat het meisje van mijn dromen niet zou komen opdagen. Het moment waarop de hoop op haar verschijnen omslaat in het besef dat ze niet zal langskomen laat zich het best verbeelden als een kristallen glas dat onverwacht op de grond aan scherven valt. Als spetterend kristal knapte mijn hart uiteen… maar gelukkig had ik een mooi nummer ter troost. Won’t you be my number two? Me and number one are through.
Wonderbaarlijk hoe muziek en herinneringen zich aan elkaar vastklampen. Hoe dan ook. Prachtig nummer van een weergaloze CD die niet mag ontbreken in je verzameling. Je hoeft er niet eens de deur voor uit. En wat is nou € 8 voor de mogelijkheid om herhaaldelijk een broos hart uiteen te horen spatten? Zet maar op repeat…

John Stewart of the Dailyshow takes on a financial advisor from CNBC (Rick Santelli) who bailed out on the agreement to appear on the Dailyshow. The first episode created a fuss and upset Jim Cramer from CNBC. So there came a second episode to attack Jim Cramer. And finally an intercontinental ballistic missive, the interview with his arch-nemesis, “the ayatollah of payola”, “Duke Sellington”, Jim Cramer (in 3 parts)…. very amusing I must say and the interview is really great!!
Een slapeloze nacht verkleurt tot een vroege & zeurende ochtend. Blijven liggen heeft geen zin. Opstaan evenmin. In de verte hoor je de eerste trein van de ochtend kreunend passeren. Dan maar jezelf zijwaarts uit bed laten vallen. Laat de gordijnen nog even dicht. De bemoeizuchtige duisternis vindt zelf de uitgang wel. Geef het tijd, iets te drinken –de flessen zijn nog open– maar eerst muziek. En hoewel dit een post is aus der Reihe ‘plattenkoffer vol nostalgie’ weet ik al precies waar ik naar op zoek ben. Deze ochtend hoef ik niet te bladeren in de platenkoffer maar ga recht op het doel af: “Rainy Night in Georgia” van Tony Joe White.

Stef Bos trekt door Nederland, België en Zuid-Afrika met nieuwe composities. Begeleid door Roberto Mercurio (bas), René van Mierlo (gitaar), Ton Snijders (toetsen, accordeon) en Martijn de Wagter (drums).
Op vrijdagavond 13 maart 2009 deed Stef Bos de grote zaal van theater De Purmaryn in Purmerend aan. Een gevarieerde speellijst met heel veel ruimte voor nieuw materiaal dat ook op drie demo CD’s te verkrijgen is. Het was een geweldig optreden met prachtige nieuwe nummers en verrassende bewerkingen van ouder materiaal.
Helaas staat er weinig materiaal van Stef op YouTube behalve de geijkte klassiekers als “Papa” en “Is dit nu later?“. Gelukkig staat er wel een goede versie van “Wodka” op YouTube hoewel de uitvoering in Purmerend veel en veel beter was… Het was een geweldig optreden.

I was digging digg and found this offbeat picture of a guy sitting amidst a web of wires using some paper documentation to figure out what is connected to what. Well if the wiring in your datacenter looks like this you can be sure that the chances of the documentation being accurate are neigh.

Anyway the caption on the image on digg was “Aren’t you glad you don’t work in IT” as if we need to feel pity for this guy or any other IT guy. Well the wiring in this picture is a clear demonstration of incompetence (not perse by the guy in the image). Don’t pity them, educate them. I’ve done my rounds in datacenters and I’ve seen many examples of wiring gone haywire. I don’t take pictures at client sites to respect the confidentiality agreements but I found some great examples on the web of proper wiring and many examples of even worse wiring than depicted above. See below.

Next year we will celebrate the 30th birthday of PacMan. Namco released PacMan in 1980 and is now preparing a new episode to release next year. I really wonder what the new game will be like. I really didn’t like the earlier spawn-offs like Pac-land. It sucked in ways in which something has never sucked before…
Let’s wait and see what they come up with. I hope they prove me wrong when I think that the original idea is still the perfect game. Well to be honest I liked Ms. PacMan better because of the different mazes but the idea is still the same. How about playing a little game of PacMan yourself?
Zondag in de late middag nog snel even naar het Robbenoordbos gereden nabij Den Oever in de kop van Noord-Holland. Het was een prachtige dag. Een mooie blauwe lucht en vriendelijk zonnetje. Hoewel het redelijk fris was zag je toch de eerste sporen van de lente… Tussen gevallen dennenappels, dorre bladeren en afgevallen takken ontsproot een nieuw plantje…

Oh this is, or can be, great news for Seinfeld fans. The complete star cast of the sitcom Seinfeld will reunite on multiple episodes of ‘Curb your enthousiasm‘ which is also written by Larry David and he plays the lead role as well. Individual characters from Seinfeld have appeared on the show before but not the entire group. So hopefully some good scenario’s are prepared to justify the reunion. Can’t wait for these episodes… due in fall. So here you have something to look forward to to overcome the long hot dull summer.
