Super Mario tune on laser cutter

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Oh this is very nice. I just came across this geek hack that plays the Super Mario tune using the stepper motor of a laser cutter. Now they actually use both axis. One for the tune the other for the bass parts. A truly amazing hack found through hackday.com. Even the ruby source code is available through the link.

Gores’ awareness solves problems

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Now here is a piece of remarkable news: Antarctic ice is growing on some parts and not melting. And I thought the Al Gore “inconvenient truth” ‘awareness’ program was just a load of bullshit. But now that the ice is growing around Antarctica I have to confess that Gore at least created some awareness amongst the ice itself. The Antarctic ice clearly got the message and now stops melting and is even recruiting happy little crystallized friends.

Or could this have anything to do with the all time low in solar activity? Hell no! What am I talking about? That is not true because Al Gore says so. My mistake. Way to go Al Gore! Now do a campaign on the financial crisis… How about “an expensive truth”? The vaporized money will come to its senses and will materialize again. Go for it man! You have my full support for you speak the truth and nothing but your convenient truth.

New Spinal Tap album

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Oh hilarious… there will be a brand new Spinal Tap album. For those unfamiliar with the Spinal Tap phenomenon read this. Spinal Tap is a parody heavy metal band featured in the mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap” (1984). Please note that there should be a ¨ above the ‘n’ in ‘spinal’ to make it more ‘heavy metal’. Unfortunately this symbol is not even available in unicode ;-)

If you’ve never seen this funny movie please put some effort in obtaining a copy and watch it. You’ll wet your pants. Here’s one legendary scene where the guitarists explains why Spinal Tap is way better than all the other bands: they have amplifiers that go to ’11′. For when they need that little extra to push it over the cliff you know?

Platendiskoffery: David Bowie – R & R Suicide

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Ik heb nooit de plaat (1972) in mijn bezit gehad maar wel een kopie op een cassettebandje. Toen de CD uit kwam in 1990 heb ik ‘m wel meteen gekocht. Ik heb het over de prachtige plaat van David Bowie “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars“.

Volledig in gedachten verzonken. Even later trekt hij zich eruit en kijkt naar het publiek. Ik zou er wat voor geven als ik wist wat er in die vijf seconden door zijn hoofd gaat.

Dit vind ik het allermooiste fragment uit het hele nummer:
Oh no love you’re not alone
You’re watching yourself but you’re too unfair
You got your head all tangled up but if I could only
make you care
Oh no love you’re not alone!
No matter what or who you’ve seen
No matter when or where you’ve been
All the knives seem to lacerate your brain
I’ve had my share, I’ll help you with the pain…
You’re not alone!

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Oh this is nice. A small video of a simulation what you would see if you were falling into a blackhole… well until you hit the singularity itself.. that is still a mystery. But if you happen to fall into a blackhole please drop a line and tell me what happens next…
