Today there is a thread on Slashdot regarding Donald Knuths “Earthshaking announcement” that he will issue on the TUG 2010 (TeX Users Groups) today. It will be on the 32th birthday of TeX (the superior typesetting software written by Knuth).
Update: Knuths’ announcement was a joke. The new version of TeX will be called iTex and it will include 3-D printing, animation, stereographic sound, and arbitrarily large or small units & irrational numbers.
The commenters are speculating on what the announcement could be. Some believe Knuth may have proven P != NP. One commenter claims that it is not very likely given the age of Knuth and the fact that many great minds peak at their early twenties. Check these two comments… I had a laugh.

A very happy birthday to PacMan… the friendly yellow gobbler. I love PacMan. Today –to commemorate the 30th birthday of PacMan– Google put a playable PacMan logo/game online. Sooo cool…. You can play it on the google website. Here’s a screenshot. When you leave PacMan in the shown position the ghost will never catch him… small bug?

Whahahaha… it had to happen one day. A problem with an anti-virus update marks a false positive and puts the file in quarantine. The OS can’t load the file anymore and… oops… reboots… and…. reboots…. and… reboots… This is actually a great feature. Rebooting windows is like 80% of normal usage and it is now fully automated.
Fixing it can be a bit hard… since the computer is rebooting all the time. McAfee could create a bootable windows CD that restores the missing file from the system but.. hey wait.. no they can’t do that. You can’t distribute a proprietary OS like windows for free… Maybe they can create a Linux boot CD to restore the windows file… Something to contemplate: using Linux to revive a windows machine.

This will make a lot of games more exciting… well except for solving a puzzle since you can just throw the pieces on the table and let the oleds display the image correctly.
I got a mail today from Jeroen pointing me to the “Pigeon: Impossible” short animation movie (thank you for that Jeroen). It is very funny. This is the first movie by writer/director Lucas Martell. He figured pixar is putting out a 90 minute movie every year. So a 6 minute short would take him… about… 3 months. Well 5 years later (May 7th 2009) it was finished. Job well done. Enjoy the movie. If you like it also check the podcasts. It gives you a little peek behind the scenes. Very amusing and interesting.
Due to the global warming we’ve had snow all week in Holland. Massive traffic jams, busses not driving, trains not running… yeee for global warming. I can’t wait until it finally kicks in. Until that time I can enjoy the beautiful snowy landscapes and ice sculptures. I always liked the Calvin cartoons in which Calvin creates violent snowmen scenes. Here’s an example:

Als ze het daar om te doen was dan zouden ze wel flitskasten neerzetten waar je echt wilt dat de snelheids gehandhaafd wordt bijvoorbeeld in de omgeving van scholen…
Oh My Funny Goodness… take a look at this. As a huge PacMan fan I love everything that has the friendly yellow round gobbler on it… but to be honest… this is a “little” over the top. Still… it’s cool…
