Pigeon: Impossible

Monday, January 25th, 2010

I got a mail today from Jeroen pointing me to the “Pigeon: Impossible” short animation movie (thank you for that Jeroen). It is very funny. This is the first movie by writer/director Lucas Martell. He figured pixar is putting out a 90 minute movie every year. So a 6 minute short would take him… about… 3 months. Well 5 years later (May 7th 2009) it was finished. Job well done. Enjoy the movie. If you like it also check the podcasts. It gives you a little peek behind the scenes.  Very amusing and interesting.

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

LOL. My good collegue Richard had a link to this YouTube-video in his instant messenger status. I loved the video so I put it here. Thanks Richard.

“Why do we do this?”
Maybe you recognize some of it? I did and had a good laugh.

We say ‘yes’ like this…
and say ‘no’ like this…

About:robots. What about robots?

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Oh well, maybe you’ve already seen this but this morning a coworker showed me a nice easter-egg in firefox. Just type ‘about:robots‘ in the address bar of firefox (or click the link, duh!). For those who want to short-sell themselves and don’t use firefox I put a screenshot below. Also check the name of the page “Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!“…

Weird Al Yankovic does Bob Dylan

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Oh alright a few days ago I wrote how I like the muscial parodies of Weird Al Yankovic. And I remembered seeing a video of Al doing Bob Dylan. A parody on Subterranean Homesick Blues. Now I really love most of the work of Bob Dylan. And to be honest I really like Subterranean Homesick Blues. I think it’s a pretty solid song. I love the line “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows”. Very powerful…. The man is an icon however poking fun, even at icons, is okay in my book. So first watch Bob Dylan:

New Spinal Tap album

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Oh hilarious… there will be a brand new Spinal Tap album. For those unfamiliar with the Spinal Tap phenomenon read this. Spinal Tap is a parody heavy metal band featured in the mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap” (1984). Please note that there should be a ¨ above the ‘n’ in ’spinal’ to make it more ‘heavy metal’. Unfortunately this symbol is not even available in unicode ;-)

If you’ve never seen this funny movie please put some effort in obtaining a copy and watch it. You’ll wet your pants. Here’s one legendary scene where the guitarists explains why Spinal Tap is way better than all the other bands: they have amplifiers that go to ‘11′. For when they need that little extra to push it over the cliff you know?

Don’t pity incompetence…

Friday, March 13th, 2009

I was digging digg and found this offbeat picture of a guy sitting amidst a web of wires using some paper documentation to figure out what is connected to what. Well if the wiring in your datacenter looks like this you can be sure that the chances of the documentation being accurate are neigh.

Aren't you glad you don't work in IT? No! I'm just glad I don't work here

Anyway the caption on the image on digg was “Aren’t you glad you don’t work in IT” as if we need to feel pity for this guy or any other IT guy. Well the wiring in this picture is a clear demonstration of incompetence (not perse by the guy in the image). Don’t pity them, educate them. I’ve done my rounds in datacenters and I’ve seen many examples of wiring gone haywire. I don’t take pictures at client sites to respect the confidentiality agreements but I found some great examples on the web of proper wiring and many examples of even worse wiring than depicted above. See below.

Seinfeld reunion on ‘Curb your enthousiasm’

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Oh this is, or can be, great news for Seinfeld fans. The complete star cast of the sitcom Seinfeld will reunite on multiple episodes of ‘Curb your enthousiasm‘ which is also written by Larry David and he plays the lead role as well. Individual characters from Seinfeld have appeared on the show before but not the entire group. So hopefully some good scenario’s are prepared to justify the reunion. Can’t wait for these episodes… due in fall. So here you have something to look forward to to overcome the long hot dull summer.

Eucalyptus drive emergency

Friday, February 27th, 2009

An idea for a short story popped into my head. Someone driving a car accidentally hits a pedestrian at some remote location. He calls the police to report the accident and call for help for the badly injured pedestrian. The emergency operator wants to know the exact location of the accident but the driver has no clue where he is so hangs up. He drags the injured pedestrian into his car, drives to main street unloads the deceased pedestrian and calls the emergency service again this time able to pinpoint the exact location…

Stupid idea? Yeah I thought so as well.. so I searched the internet to see if someone already thought of this before I did. Guess what? It’s a little different though. A man calls the emergency service because his wife is attacked by a warthog real bad. The 911 guy wants to know the address.
Yeah, we’re at 1825 Eucalyptus drive…
Can you spell that for me, sir?”

Eeehhhmmm…. I’m gonna drag her on over to oakstreet and you can pick her up there…
